Walk through six acres of tapestry gardens, where joyweed spells out "Aloha," and red salvia and yellow caricature plants create a picture of King Kamehameha's feathered cape and helmet. Symmetrical Norfolk Island pines, towering golden bamboo and African Tulip trees provide a backdrop for bougainvillea and delicate flowers with whimsical names like cat's whiskers and lollipop plants. There's the Bombax tree, whose shaving brush flowers open with a pop, and the pua-kenikeni whose fragrant flowers change hue and are popular in the making of leis. But the main feature of the garden is the kaleidoscope of hundreds of annuals, constantly replanted for new color.
